Music is a huge part of my life. No life, you may say, but yeah, without music, I think I can die. I listen to ... let's see, exactly 95 bands. My favourites are: (in alphabetical order)

As you can see, only Muse is underlined. This is because Muse is a very, very special band to me. I love them more than I love any other of the bands listed here. I do not only admire Muse for their music (yeah, fine, strange/disgusting/irritating music as some people may say), I also admire them for other things, like their attitude towards certain issues. (Life, one big fat issue, just to name one.) Somehow, Muse taught me things that changed my life for the better. One thing I learned from them was to be more accepting towards things that come in my way in life.

Muse has played an important part in my life for quite a while. Whenever I'm down, listening to them makes me feel better. There's something about their music I can't quite describe. Something magical, perhaps. (Maybe not to any of you. I bet 99.999999% of people who have listened to Muse simply hate them, or think they suck, because their music isn't mainstream and sound funny to their ears.)

My favourite songs by Muse are Eternally Missed, Easily, Stockholm Syndrome, Butterflies And Hurricanes, Time Is Running Out, Hysteria, Map Of The Problematique and Apocalypse Please Eternally Missed made me look at them in a completely different light. The song was just perfect to me. And I dare say it's one of their best songs ever written. Easily is a very special song to me, because it reminds me of a very-special-somebody.

In late May, something happened to this very-special-someone. (25th of May, to be exact.) It had been this somebody who introduced Muse to me. Now, to remember this person by, I listen to Muse. Muse has become, a very, very important band to me, and thrice as special.

I've gotten used to people telling me how much they hate Muse, or how weird they think Muse sounds. I usually just ignore these remarks. However, sometimes, people go a little too far. Yes, they are entitled to their own opinions, but shouldn't they show some respect to the fan they're talking to, and keep often-very-nasty comments to themselves? A pretty mild "insult" would be, "Muse is so gay and stupid. Why do you listen to such a gay band?" (And gay is not even the right word to use.) I really don't care if you tell me you think they suck, or that you hate them with all your heart and soul, just please keep really horrible comments to yourself. Please look at things from different angles - sometimes, things you don't like and don't expect others to like, might be special to others for a reason.

I'm not really concerned about people making spiteful remarks about my other favourite bands. But when it comes to Muse, I become super sensitive, and when the person insulting them goes slightly too far, I'd feel like stabbing them 347683274687638476 times. Insulting Muse is like insulting this very-important-and-special-someone. You've been warned. =)

I also hate it when people decide whether they like a band or not based on just one or two songs they've heard. It's just not enough to decide whether you like this band or not. I usually download at least three songs, or more than ten, if possible, to make a judgement. A classmate of mine made her decision without even listening to one song, because apparently "Muse looked weird" to her. I hate people who judge things (other than bands) superficially, so stay away from me if you are one.

This leads us to my other favourite bands. So, this classmate decides that Muse looks weird, and is definitely a very weird band, so from that moment onwards, she thinks that all the other bands I listen to are weird. Oh, how peachy. So there you have it, according to one person, I love Muse, so all other bands I like are weird. Ha, she should be given some Nobel prize for making such an absolutely amazing discovery and conclusion.

I used to dislike metalcore/heavy metal/screamo and music along these lines. But now I love these genres. I don't like rap/hip hop/R&B. I have nothing against these singers/rappers, the music simply can't click in my head or hold my attention.
